I can’t believe it has been for 3 years that I haven’t updated the category of ‘Spring Legend’. Right, I haven’t visited my old Mommy since the end of January, 2014. I lost my previous job in the end of November, 2013, and started my new position in the end of March, 2014. And, my father passed away on August, 4th of year 2014, just a few months after my new position.
Then, I did not have many ‘paid’ vacation days, and the manager at the time was not a sympathetic person (I excuse him since he was young. He, unfortunately, lost his position 4 months after my hiring). Lacking of paid vacation days is one con of starting a new position. Some people like me who is not a good negotiator, who is not a patient person, and who is too ordinary to be cocky, have to take a bit of disadvantaged opportunities, such as coming with a lower salary range and a fewer paid vacation days despite one’s age or one’s experience. I was treated as a ‘junior’ despite my impressive resume. This is a true capitalism, no complaints .
Anyway, this post is not about my job, nor our condominium in Huai Rou (怀柔), but our newly purchased tiny units of our first vacation home in Hainan province of People’s Republic of China. Why Hainan? Here is what in my odd mind — I want to live a few months in somewhere warm! It means that I eventually will join Canadian ‘snowbird’ flock flying to a warm place each year. Though I live in Toronto, but still always feel under weather when winters are here. Many well-established Canadians fly to Florida each winter. What about a bunch of not-well-established Canadians like me? I explored the idea of Costa Rica? Mexico? No, I don’t speak Spanish and not going to start learning a new language unless I cannot survive without it. China is a totally different story. It was my old homeland. It is a stable environment, no wars, no riots, and most of people speak Mandarin. Hainan’s air is so clean that one does not want to leave when one is there. We snatched two TINY units. The followings are a few pictures from Hainan, our place:
